Senior Payroll Specialist Location: Lansing, MI (Fully Onsite) Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM (1-hour lunch) Compensation: $80,000-$95,000 Our client, a well-established company with multistate operations across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to join their onsite team in Lansing. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the full payroll lifecycle (not just data entry), and is ready to take on more responsibility over time. Sr. Payroll Specialist Key Responsibilities: Weekly Payroll Processing Enter 400 timecards weekly across multiple states Process both hourly and salaried employees Pull data from ERP system submissions and emailed union Excel timesheets Consolidate all sources into one system accurately and efficiently Payroll Tax Compliance & Support Assist Payroll Manager with federal, state, local, and union fringe tax filings Perform reconciliations and remittances Help organize payroll documentation for archival Process Mapping & Documentation Learn and chart out 10-12 distinct payroll processes Understand workflows such as union fringe calculations, tax prep, and time entry handling Support efforts to refine and improve internal payroll procedures Sr. Payroll Specialist Qualifications: Required: 3 years as the primary payroll lead OR a strong history of adapting quickly across multiple companies Deep understanding of how payroll functions (beyond data entry) Proven reliability and a strong work ethic-no-nonsense, no excuses Preferred: Union payroll and/or construction industry experience Knowledge of certified payroll and prevailing wage returns Payroll or accounting degree ZRCFS
